Thank you, I love to build things. Its a sense of control over my environment that I need sometimes.
Very therapeutic too. [ He laughs putting a hand on his chest matter of factly and playfully. ]
After all I'm a beacon of mental health. [ his eyebrows turn in that soft smile of his. He looks so much like a proud grandfather, sharing ancient knowledge and treasure. ]
What do you like to do? I've seen your trinkets around on occasion, do they make you happy. I would hope so.
[He freezes just a touch at that. "It's a sense of control over my environment that I need sometimes."
Very slowly he continues his walk around, trying to focus more on details than the little insecurities that start cropping up. Yuck, is this what therapy's like? Putting you on a guilt trip?]
They're not "Trinkets". [He doesn't quite snap at that but there is just a touch of an edge to his tone as he looks up, almost challenging Rung at that.]
Just because they're small in comparison to most people here, they're highly developed pieces of technology. I engineer and build things, maybe not completely unlike your model hobbies but my designs are meant to function for specialized purposes.
[At least Rung seems sincere in his apology. Donnie's still frowning but he settles down a little. It's hard trying to fancy yourself as high-tech when you're literally surrounded by sentient technology so he supposes he can see why they'd consider his creations more like toys. Megatron had called them trinkets too.
Donnie ducks his head away to hide the scowl that comes up at the thought of the name, sucking in a breath as he turns to wander back towards the food.]
You're forgiven. [Even if his clipped tone might suggest otherwise, but that's just how he tends to sound, borderline sarcastic.]
My tech is my tech. But I don't think art is too much of a stretch. It is a craft, after all, even if I don't make my designs purely for display.
[He looks around before picking up one of the flatter pastries. It's like a magic trick, some strange slight-of-hand, only there's not really anything that happens between his picking the thing up and it becoming a napkin in the next split-second. He flicks it out and then proceeds to wipe his hands off and dab at his mouth.]
Memory huh... [Donnie frowns thoughtfully.] There's a lot to go through.
[That goes for inventions too but... He reaches behind him, a panel in his battle shell opening to pop out a small cylinder.] The list of my inventions is lengthy but this is definitely top-tier and my precious baby.
[One of them, anyway. Donnie thumbs a switch and the tech-bō springs into full-size, which he gives a spin before hitting another switch to produce a perhaps startling number of things that have somehow been compacted into its narrow length.]
[ Rung had leaned forward to look and suddenly leans back at the sudden display of objects. ]
Goodness, that is jam packed, and simple but more then meets the eye.
How do you manage to keep it from overwhelming its system? [ Rung moves back to give a close look again. Clearly intrigued. It reminds him of something... 70% pockets.... hah. ]
[Brat He lets Rung have a good look at things before reverting it. Everything folds neatly back into place with another tap, and he gives the staff a fond stroke.]
A lot of reconfigurations, testing and trial and error. But on a normal basis not everything runs at the same time so that does cut down on a lot of things. I do need to remind myself to keep it charged.
What a wonderful piece of work. How long did it take you to perfect it. At such a young age too.
I would love to hold it myself to look but I'm afraid, [ Rung lifts his large hands. ] As delicate as I may be, its a high risk and I do not want to ruin something so precious.
Have you tried channeling it to solar power? [ Rung does not mind the moment of bratness from the kid... It means he's getting comfortable. He hopes.]
[He beams with pride at that. Compliments? He loves those, especially when they're coming from an adult.]
I've had it a few years so I guess it's been about that long to get it to this stage. Always a work in progress though, there's always things I think I can probably swap out or add in.
[He grins a bit, an actual smile. He holds the staff out.] Well, activating its functions would probably be tricky for someone your size but I'll let you hold it. You've built so many models so I don't doubt that you're careful enough.
Solar? Direct power conversion wouldn't work so well- not a good surface ratio for energy collection. Also a lot of our activities back home would be at night, not to mention we live in a sewer so there's not exactly much access to solar down there.
[ Rung carefully takes the staff, his fingers hold it like holding a new born bird to keep from scurrying off. rung lights up his optics, its so... precious to see things so small.
And he got some good intel from that question. No sunlight, goes out at night, lives in a sewer. Isolation among other things are likely to crop up later in sessions. ]
Its beautiful. I can see the care you put in this... [ He returns it as gently as he took it. ]
I see though, makes sense. So Electrical is best, or is it another source?
[Donnie's been handled by the big guys a few times enough to know they're pretty capable of being careful with tiny, delicate things. It probably helps that he knows Rung builds models and the precision it takes for those, so he's not an absolute ball of anxiety watching the bot handle his baby.
He compacts it once again when it's returned to him.]
Electrical. No point in making something too specialized if it's not a reliable source, right?

and yes, my models are for an aesthetic but they have a purpose too. [ The challenge answered, but not maliciously. To explain his side. ]
I still have my own biases, and I can see that I upset you still even if I assumed my words harmless.
Our work take on different forms, but they both have a purpose.
Enertainment, control, proof of our existence, knowledge to pass on. I shouldn't have been so callus.
